There are two types of percussion instruments, which are probably the
oldest of all the musical instruments. Membranophones, which is any instrument that causes sound by the vibration of some kind of membrane, such as a stretched skin. The most important Membranophones are the family of drums. Idiophones, which produce their sound by shaking, hitting, clashing together, rubbing and scrapping. Examples of idiophones include bells, glockenspiels, rattle triangle and xylophone. |
